The Backstory

🌱 Why "Chess For Everyone" Exists

In June 2025, Premier Chess Academy founder Renjith Balakrishnan reviewed Kerala's player statistics and found something surprising: despite the state's long history of producing talented players, very few had crossed the 2000 Classical FIDE rating mark. His conclusion — the bottleneck wasn't talent, it was opportunity. Ambitious Indian players traditionally had to travel abroad to gain rating points and experience against strong opposition.

"What if every aspiring player, irrespective of financial background, had an opportunity to experience serious classical chess?" — the question that started it all.

That diagnosis led to Vision 2000+ Kerala — a mission to help at least 10 additional Kerala players cross the 2000 rating barrier by the end of 2026, by bringing high-level international competition directly to Trivandrum instead of asking Indian players to travel overseas for it.
